Introduction
ThIS report requests the City Councll hold a publIC hearing for the
assessment of costs to repalr damaged sldewalks, drlveways and curbs
at varIOUS areas withIn the City. It IS recommended that Councll
adopt the attached ResolutIon conflrmlng the assessment of costs.
Ba~.kground
On May 13, 1986, the CIty Councll set a public hearlng for June 10,
1986, on the assessment of costs to repair damaged sldewalks,
driveways and curbs wlthln the CIty of Santa Monica. Letters were
mailed ten days In advance (May 30, 1986) to property owners lnformlng
them of the publIC hearIng In accordance WIth the legal reqUirements
of Chapter 22 of the Improvement Act of 1911.
Budget/FInancIal Impact
ThIS assessment dIstrIct WIll generate revenues to the CIty over the
next two years In the amount of $3,051.75. Any unpaid assessments
WIll be placed on the 1987 property tax bIll.

I
I REPAIR OF DAMAGED SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS, CURBS AND/OR REMOVAL
OF OBSTRUCTIONS, PERFORMED UNDER PROVISIONS OF DIVISION 7,
CHAPTER 22, SECTIONS 5600 TO 5630, OF THE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS
CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA CSR-86-81)
Pursuant to the provisions of D1V1Slon 7, Chapter 22, Sections
5600 of 5630, of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of
Callforn1a, the follow1ng work was caused to be done by the Street
Superintendent:
The removal and replacement of 1 , 003 square feet of sidewalk
at $4 per llnear foot;
The removal and replacement of 94 square feet of sldewalk in
driveway at $5 per square foot;
The removal and replacement of 198 square feet of driveway
apron at $5 per square foot;
The removal and replacement of 14 square feet of curb1ng at
$10 per lineal foot;
The removal and replacement of 113.75 square feet of PC
concrete $2 per square foot;
The total cost of the above work was $5,839.50.
The total proposed assessment for the above Sidewalk and curb
damage is $2,919.75 or 50 percent of the total cost. The other 50
percent of the cost 1S being pa1d by the City as the above repairs
were caused by tree root damage.
The removal and replacement of 11 lineal feet of curbing at
$12 per lineal foot.
The total proposed assessment for sidewalks and curbs is
$132.00 or 100 percent of the total cost as the damage was not related
to tree roots.

the real property in front of WhICh the work has been done, the
proposed assessment agaInst each property, and a descrIptIon of the
work done In front of each property.
