Introduction
This report requests the Clty Councll hold a public hearlng for the
assessment of costs to repalr damaged sldewalks, driveways and curbs
at varlOUS areas WIthIn the Clty. It lS recommended that Councll
adopt the attached Resolutlon conflrmlng the assessment of costs.
Background
On AprIl 22, 1986, the City Councll set a publlC hearing for June 10,
1986, on the assessment of costs to repaIr damaged sidewalks,
drIveways and curbs withIn the CIty of Santa MonIca. Letters were
mailed ten days in advance (May 30, 1986) to property owners InformIng
them of the publIC hearlng in accordance wlth the legal reqUIrements
of Chapter 22 of the Improvement Act of 1911.
Budget/Flnanclal Impact
This assessment dlstrlct wlll generate revenues to the Clty over the
next two years In the amount of $1,842.00. Any unpald assessments
will be placed on the 1987 property tax bill.

2. Close the publlC hearIng and acknowledge any protests; and
3. Adopt the attached ResolutIon confIrming the assessments.

The sidewalk repair at the above descrlbed property has been
completed, and the cost of the sldewalk repalr is $ . Your

at the location.
Pursuant to Streets and Highl,....ays Code Section 5616, this letter is
notificatlon that th~ Clty Council, pursuant to Resolution No. 7195
adopted on April 22, 1986, has scheduled a hearing to hear and pass
upon the report of the Superintendent of Streets of the cost of the
sidewalk repair, 1n connectlon with the above-described proJect,
together with any objections and protests, lf any, which may be ralsed
by any property owner liable to be assessed for the cost of such
sidewalk repair and any other lnterested persons.

Upon conflrmatlon of the report of the Superintendent of Streets, as
provlded for in Streets and Highways Code Sectlon 5618, the cost of
the sldewalk repair will be assessed against your property, and you
will be not1fled of the manner of payment.
The Clty will provlde flnancial assistance for low-to-moderate lncorne
persons. If your lncome lS less than $16,150 for a farnlly of one
person, $18,450 for two persons, $20,750 for three persons or $23,050
for four persons, call 458-8701 for lnformatlon on this program.

STREET SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
REPAIR OF DAMAGED SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS, CURBS AND/OR REMOVAL
OF OBSTRUCTIONS, PERFORMED UNDER PROVISIONS OF DIVISION 7,
CHAPTER 22, SECTIONS 5600 TO 5630, OF THE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS
CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA (SR-86-80)
Pursuant to the provIsIons of DIVISIon 7, Chapter 22, SectIons
5600 of 5630, of the Streets and HIghways Code of the State of
California, the followIng work was caused to be done by the Street
Superintendent:
The removal and replacement of 501 square feet of sidewalk at
$4 per lInear foot;
The removal and replacement of 232 square feet of drIveway at
$5 per square foot;
The removal and replacement of 24 lineal feet of curbIng at
$12 per square foot;
The removal and replacement of 116 square feet of PC concrete
$2 per square foot;
The total cost of the above work was $3,684.00.
The total proposed assessment for the above sidewalk and curb
damage IS $1,842.00 or 50 percent of the total cost. The other 50
percent of the cost IS being paId by the City as the above repaIrs
were caused by tree root damage.

MonIca, pursuant to SectIon 5600 to 5630 of the Streets and HIghways
Code, commenced proceedlngs to cause the repalr of damaged sIdewalks,

SECTION 2. All protests and obJectIons of every kind and
nature to the report of the SuperIntendent of Streets be and the same
are hereby overruled a;1d denied.
SECTION 3. The cost of the repairs, as set forth In the
report of the SuperIntendent of Streets, shall be assessed agaInst the
