A b~kelane such as 1S on aan Vlcente Boulevard 1S a bicycle fac~llty 1nd1cated by the strlp1ng of a b1kelane to separate blcycllSt from the travel lane used by veh~cle dr1vers. This has been proven to be the safest type of blcycle fac1lty. A bike route 15 des1gnated only by slgns along the roadway. Santa Monlca.californla CounCl1 Meetln May 22, 1984 There are presently blkelanes on San Vlcente Boulevard, Ocean Avenue, Barnard Way, Ocean Park Boulevard between Barnard Way and Llncoln Boulevard, Pearl Street between Llncoln Boulevard and 17th Street, and on Montana Avenue between 20th and 26th Streets (see ffidp). The blkeroutes ln the Clty are outlined on the attached map. Clty SLaff proposes to lnstall blkelanes on Callfornla Avenue between Ocean Avenue and 17th Street and on Arlzona Avenue between Llncoln Boulevard and 26th Street. Both of these streets are wlde enough for blkelanes wlthout reduclng the number of travel lanes or ellminatlng on-street park1ng. The Callfornla Avenue blkeldne wlll provlde dlrect blcycle faCllltles to PallSddes and Llncoln Parks, St. Monlca's Elementary dnd Sen10r H1gh School, and Lincoln Jurn10r nlgh School. The Ar1zona Avenue b1kelane w1ll prov1de dlrect b1cycle faC1l1tles to Madlson and McK1nley elementary schools, and Santa Monlca and St. Johns Hospltal.
