SUBJECT: Award Bid to Provide Tree Maintenance Services, Bid #2835
Introduction
This report recommends award of bid to provide tree maintenance services for the Open
Space Management Division, Community and Cultural Services Department at specified
unit prices per Attachment A, with nine additional one-year renewal options. Estimated
annual expenditure is $542,000.00.
Background
The vendor is to provide annual services for pruning, removal and replacement of City
trees as required for the City?s community forest. Work to be performed consists of tree
trimming for traffic and pedestrian clearance and safety, and maintaining the health and
development of City trees. The vendor will coordinate with the Community Forester and
other City staff to insure the most appropriate care and maintenance of the community
forest.
Discussion
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published April 15 and 20, 2001) in
accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on

May 11, 2001. Proposal forms were mailed to seven vendors and notices were advertised
in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Three proposals were
received per Attachment A. Staff has evaluated the bid submitted by West Coast
Arborists, Inc., the low bidder, and finds that it meets City specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
Budget authority for this purchase is in the Open Space Management Division, Community
and Cultural Services Department, account number 01511.555010 40032W.
Recommendation
It is recommended that City Council award Bid #2835 to West Coast Arborists, Inc. at
specified unit prices, with nine additional one-year renewal options, as the best bidder.
