SR-912-000 (8) f:\trans\admin\council\funding Council Meeting: June 26, 2001 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Authorization to submit applications for Big Blue Bus funding for Fiscal Year 2001-2002 INTRODUCTION This report will provide Big Blue Bus staff the authority to submit applications for operating and capital funds in a timely manner. DISCUSSION The Big Blue Bus operating and capital budgets are funded by a variety of subsidy (grant) funds from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA). The LACMTA requires that City Council give authorization to submit applications for these funds. In prior years, City Council approved the submission of grant applications when it approved the Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP), usually in March or April of each year. The SRTP due date has been changed to October. In order to receive funding in a timely manner it is necessary for City Council to take a separate action to authorize the submission of grant applications. -1- BUDGETARY/FINANCIAL IMPACTS This action allows the Big Blue Bus to receive the revenue identified in the budget. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to submit applications for operating and capital funds available to the Big Blue Bus from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for Fiscal Year 2001-2002.
