FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Award of Contract for the 1999-2000 Community Development Block Grant

This report recommends that the City Council award a contract for the construction of
CDBG funded curb ramps at various locations throughout the City to Los Angeles
Engineering, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $75,940 and approve

Background
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the City has
established policies and procedures and initiated a plan for compliance with ADA
requirements throughout the City. The construction of curb ramps at various locations
throughout the City is part of the compliance plan. Of the 3,969 possible curb ramps in the
City, approximately 1,353 curbs remain to be retrofitted. The current rate of progress is
the construction of between 100-150 curb ramps per year. Staff estimates it will take
approximately nine years to complete all curb ramp construction in the City.
