Subject: Recommendation to City Council to Adopt a Resolution Endorsing
Proposition 26, (The Majority Rule Act for Smaller Classes, Safer Schools
and Financial Accountability)
Backqround
As requested by City Council on February 8, 2000, the attached resolution endorsing
Proposition 26 (The Majority Rule Act for Smaller Classes, Safer Schools and Financial
Accountability) is presented for adoption. Proposition 26, which will appear on the
March 2000 ballot, would reduce the number of votes needed to pass local school
bonds from the current two-thirds to a simple majority. Once adopted the resolution
will be forwarded to the League of California Cities which will publicize Santa Monica's
support of Proposition 26.
Budqet/Financial Impact
The recommendation contained in this report has no budget or financial impacts on the
City.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution endorsing
Proposition 26.
