AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING SECTION 8302C OF THE
SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE, WHICH SECTION
PERTAINS TO REGULATIONS FOR THE INSTALLATION
OF ELECTRICAL DEVICES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS FOT,LOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 8302C of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SECTION 8302C. Section 6 of the Uniform Elec-
trical Code, 1947 Edition, hereby is amended to read
as follows:
SECTION 6. General Requirements. Standards for
Installation and Materials.
(a) All installations shall be in conformity
with the provisions of this Code and with approved
standards for safety to life and property.
(b) Residential. In addition to the require-
ments of this Code, and except as specifically modi-
fied by the provisions of this Code,* the requirements
of the National Electrical Code shall apply to all
residential installations.
(c) Commercial and Industrial. Electrical
installations in commercial and industrial structures
shall comply with the requirements of this Code and
the requirements of the National Electrical Code, ex-
cept that electrical installations in structures that
are under the jurisdiction of the California Division
of Industrial Safety shall comply with the requirements
of the Electrical Safety Orders where these Orders are
more restrictive than the requirements of the National
Electrical Code.**
(d) The National Electrical Code (1959 Edition)
as approved by the American Standard Association, is
hereby adopted by reference as the National Electrical
Code referred to in sub-sections(b) and (c) above.
Three printed copies of such National Electrical
Code are on file in the office of the City Clerk.
(e) All electrical materials, devices, appliances
and equipment installed or used in this City shall be in
conformity with the provisions of this Code and with ap-
proved standards for safety to life and property.
Listing or labeling as conforming to the standards
of the Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., the United States
Bureau of Standards, the United States Bureau of Mines,
or other similar institutions of recognized standing shall
be prima facie evidence of conformity with the approved
standards for safety to life and property.

SECTION 2. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk shall cause
the same to be published once in the official newspaper within
fifteen days after its adoption. The ordinance shall become effec-
tive on the thirtieth day after the date of its
radoption. ' 1960.
