R-10225Council Meeting: June 19, 2007 Resolution Number 10225 (CCS) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA ADOPTING A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT AND AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF AN APPLICATION FOR PRESERVE AMERICA GRANT FUNDS ON BEHALF OF THE SANTA MONICA PIER RESTORATION CORPORATION WHEREAS, Preserve America is a White House Initiative developed in cooperation with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and other Federal agencies to support communities that have demonstrated a commitment to recognizing, designating, and protecting local cultural resources; and WHEREAS, the City of Santa. Monica was designated a Preserve America community in February 2005, making the City eligible to apply for a Preserve America grant; and WHEREAS, the City Council supports the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation efforts to promote and plan. for the Santa Monica Pier's 100th anniversary celebrations through the development of cultural heritage programs and exhibits; and WHEREAS, all Preserve America grant funds must be distributed to a government entity, even if anon-profit organization, in this case the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation, is involved in the management of the grant project; and WHEREAS, procedures established by the Preserve America Grant requires jurisdiction-applicant to certify, by resolution, the support and approval of the jurisdiction's governing authority for submittal of a grant application with the submission of said application to Preserve America Grant, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY. COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the Santa Monica City Council authorizes the submission on behalf of the Santa Monica Pier Corporation, an application to the Preserve America Grant. SECTION 2. That the Santa Monica City Council's intent is to accept the Preserve America Grant if awarded, on behalf of the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation to carryout its development and programming for the Santa Monica Pier's 100th anniversary celebrations. SECTION 3. That the City Manager or his/her designee is hereby authorized and empowered to execute in the name of the City of Santa Monica all necessary grant related documents, including but not limited to, applications, agreements, amendments necessary for the purposes of securing grant funds to implement and carry out the program(s) specified in the grant application. 2 SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and thenceforth the same shall be in full force and effect.
