The public hearing was opened at 8:05 P.M.. Jullen Haas of Senator
Cranston's office offered Senator Cranston's support in finding
solutions to airport problems. The following persons spoke in favor of
a lowered nOlse limit for alr traffic at the Santa Monlca Airport:

Coray. The followlng people spoke in opposition to a lowered noise

The public hearing was closed at 11:15 P.~. by order of ~ayor van den
Steenhoven. Councilmember Scott requested that the record show that
wrltten responses have been received from 99 residents of the Los
Angeles area and 445 residents of the Santa Monica area requestlng that
a declbel noise limit of 85 be adopted.
Conncilmember Scott moved to introduce an ordinance entltled: "AN
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA },lONICA A~lENDING
SECTION 10100, SECTIO~ 10105, 10105B, 10105C OF THE SANTA MONICA
:lUNICIPAL CODE, TO CLARIFY LANGUAGE, TO SET APPROPRIATE NOISE LIMITA-

Second by ~ayor Pro Tempore Reed. Counci1memeer Yannatta Go1dway moved
to amend the ordinance to add a regulation that prohibits airportactiVlty
on Saturdays and Sundays untl1 after 10:00 A.~. The motion falled for
lack of a second. After dlScussion the main motlon was approved by the

Counci1member Yannatta Goldway moved that the City Attorney prepare an
ordlnance for Council consideratlon on September 11, 1979 to limit the
hours of operation at the Santa ~onlca on Saturdays and Sundays to
prohibit operations before 10:00 A.}1. Second by Counci1member Jennings.
The motion failed by the following vote:
