The public hearing was opened at 8:05 P.M.. Jullen Haas of Senator Cranston's office offered Senator Cranston's support in finding solutions to airport problems. The following persons spoke in favor of a lowered nOlse limit for alr traffic at the Santa Monlca Airport: Louis Chavez, Ira Nestle, Llncoln Vaughn, Matthew Connolly, Robert Altagen, Tom Smlth, Brad Gold, Guy Bennett, James Boyk, Oliver Serene, ~lrs. Willlam Todd, J. Paul Rens, Steven Rosen, Dan Selditz, Nat Trives, Tom Kirwan, Ed Starrs, John Stark, Ray Brezle, Jim Lennon, Jim Hoyt, Wolfgang Kummer, John Hannan, Gene Penn, Mary L. Bardelon, Mlchael Emory, Walter Bolger, Geraldine Kennedy, Richard Fall, Suzle Eklund and Mrs. Coray. The followlng people spoke in opposition to a lowered noise limit for air trafflc at the Santa ~onica Alrport: Jerry Jackson, Bart Galt, Zorln Zivloovia, Gil Gunnell, Earl Grimes, Tony Chariott, George Garrett, Robert Cleaves, Robert Hoffman, Walt Davls, Ron Battz, Bonnie Jean Ervin, Allan Weston, Sally LaForge, Gary Danforth, Bl11 Seldlltz, Ace Hollinger, Rachel Bonzon, Arnold Travis, John McDonough, Marilyn Angle, Robert Elmer, Dr. Wllllam Lofton, Wes Baker, Jim Barton, Pam Baldizar, Vin Flchter, Donald Jaye, Marvin E. Levin, T. K. Pederson, Robert Tarqulnial, Dr. Robert Rose, Debble Hoff, Steve Lalonde, Robert Gunnell, Richard Kettler, Sylvla Silberman, Wallace Reed, Dick Sensenbrenner and Paul Blackman. The public hearing was closed at 11:15 P.~. by order of ~ayor van den Steenhoven. Councilmember Scott requested that the record show that wrltten responses have been received from 99 residents of the Los Angeles area and 445 residents of the Santa Monica area requestlng that a declbel noise limit of 85 be adopted. Conncilmember Scott moved to introduce an ordinance entltled: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA },lONICA A~lENDING SECTION 10100, SECTIO~ 10105, 10105B, 10105C OF THE SANTA MONICA :lUNICIPAL CODE, TO CLARIFY LANGUAGE, TO SET APPROPRIATE NOISE LIMITA- TIONS, TO ESTABLISH NOISE LEVEL VIOLATIO~ PRESIT~PTIO~, TO PRECLUDE T~~I~ING OF HIGH PERFORMANCE AIRCRAFT, AND TO AUTHORIZE RULE ~~KING", with the insertlon of an 85 decibel noise limit in Section 3, Subsection 1 Public hearH solutions to noise hmi t l trafflC at s.. Second by ~ayor Pro Tempore Reed. Counci1memeer Yannatta Go1dway moved to amend the ordinance to add a regulation that prohibits airportactiVlty on Saturdays and Sundays untl1 after 10:00 A.~. The motion falled for lack of a second.
