NOVEMBER 24, 1992
A regular meeting of the Santa Monica city Council was called to
order by Mayor Genser at 7:40 P.M. on Tuesday, November 24, 1992,
in the Council Chambers.

City Clerk Clarice E. Dykhouse
councilmember Zane led the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance
to the Flag of the united States of America.
~: CERTIFICATION OF RESULTS/CONSOLIDATED GENERAL MUNICIPAL I
ELECTION/NOVEMBER 3, 1992: Presented was the resolution for
adoption certifying the results of the Consolidated General
Municipal Election held on November 3, 1992. Councilmember Zane
moved to adopt Resolution No. 8503(CCS) entitled: "A RESOLUTION
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA RECITING THE FACT
OF THE CONSOLIDATED GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER
3, 1992, DECLARING THE RESULT AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS PROVIDED
BY LAW, II reading by ti tIe only and waiving further reading
thereof. Second by Mayor Pro Tempore Abdo. The motion was
approved by the fallowing vote:
council vote: Affirmative: Councilmembers Zane, Vazquez, Olsen,
Holbrook, Abdo, Mayor Genser
Absent: councilmember Katz
2: ADMINISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE/PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATE
OF ELECTION/SANTA MONICA COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES: City Clerk
Dykhouse announced the newly-elected members of the Santa Monica
College Board of Trustees, presented the certificate of Election,
and administered the Oath of Office to:

3: ADMINISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE/PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATE
OF ELECTION/SANTA MONICA-MALIBU UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF
EDUCATION: City Clerk Dykhouse announced the newly-elected
members of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified school District Board
of Education, presented the Certificate of Election, and
administered the Oath of Office to:

Mary Kay Kamath
Peggy Lyons
4: ADMINISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE/PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATE
OF ELECTION/RENT CONTROL BOARD: ci ty Clerk Dykhouse announced
the newly-elected members of the Rent Control Board, presented
the certificate of Election, and administered the Oath of Office
to:

5: ADMINISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE/PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATE
OF ELECTION/CITY COUNCIL: City Clerk Dykhouse announced the
newly-elected members of the City Council, presented the
certificate of Election, and administered the Oath of Office to:
Judy Abdo
Ken Genser
Asha Greenberg
Paul Rosenstein
The new councilmembers assumed their seats at the dais.
6: SELECTION OF MAYOR: City Clerk Dykhouse opened the floor to
nominations for Mayor. Councilmember Vazquez nominated Judy
Abdo. Councilmember Olsen nominated Judy Abdo and Ken Genser to
split a term. There being no other nominations, nominations were
closed. Discussion was held. On a call for the vote, the vote
on the nominations was as follows:
Judy Abdo - Councilmembers Abdo, Greenberg, Holbrook,
Rosenstein, Vazquez
Judy AbdojKen Genser - Councilmember Olsen, Mayor Genser
Judy Abdo was elected as Mayor for a two-year term and assumed
her seat at the dais.
7: SELECTION OF MAYOR PRO TEMPORE: Mayor Abdo opened the floor
to nominations for Mayor Pro Tempore. Councilmember Rosenstein
nominated Councilmember Vazquez. Mayor Abdo moved to appoint by
acclamation Tony Vazquez as Mayor Pro Tempore for a two-year
term. The motion was duly seconded and unanimously approved.
8: RECOGNITION/KEN GENSER: Mayor Abdo presented a gift to
Councilmember Genser in recognition of his service as Mayor.

RECOGNITION/DENNIS ZANE: Richard Moore, representing Santa
Monica College, Pam Brady, representing Santa Monica-Malibu
School District, Ann Hiller, representing Assemblymember Tom I
Hayden I s office, John Dudzinsky, representing the Santa Monica
Chamber of Commerce, Rocky Scotti, representing Youth In Action,
and victor Manrique, representing the Mexican-American Political
Association, spoke in recognition of retiring Councilmember
Dennis Zane. Mayor Pro Tempore Vazquez, Councilmember Holbrook,
Councilmember Genser, Counci1member Olsen, Councilmember
Rosenstein, Councilmember Greenberg, and Mayor Abdo spoke in
recognition of retiring Councilmember Dennis Zane. Mayor Abdo
presented a proclamation and gift to Dennis Zane in appreciation
for his energetic leadership and dedication to improving the
community for all its citizens. Dennis Zane addressed the
assemblage.
REMARKS: Mayor Abdo addressed the assemblage in thanks for their
support and trust and discussed her vision for the future.
PUBLIC INPUT: Member of the pUblic John Jurenka addressed
Council and discussed his pride in the participants in City
government. Member of the public Beloved Quail expressed his
concerns.
ADJOURNMENT: At 8:47 P.M., the meeting was adjourned.
