Tern Greenberg to dISCUSS the number of vacant buIldmgs m the CIty and the CIty'S policIes
regardmg demolItIOn of those bUIldmgs
The Mayor opened the meetmg for publIc comment
Steve Brackett, representmg the Santa MOnIca PolIce Officers' ASSOCIatIOn, dIscussed the health
and publIc safety nsks assOCIated WIth vacant bUIldmgs and spoke m suppon of Mayor Pro Tern
Greenberg's effort Member of the publIc Tom FranCIS urged the ImplementatIOn of a ratmg
system for the evaluatIon of the condItIon of vacant bUIldmgs, for demohtIon only of those
bUIldmgs that are chrome safety hazards, and to study the posslblhty of provldmg affordable
housmg m those buIldmgs WhICh could be restored CouncIl asked questiOns of staff and
dISCUSSIOn ensued

and permIt a propeny owner to demolish a bmldmg after It has been legally vacated and also to
have staff study present nmsance abatement procedures to see If they need to be refined

staff to analyze the CIty's demohtlon and nUIsance abatement procedures and repon back as soon

because the Item was regardIng demolItIOn of butldmgs and what was voted on was to reVIsIt
nUIsance abatement procedures and he does not beheve that thIS was what was agendlzed
