M-3/4/1983 . . . . 175 MINUTES OF THE EMERGENCY SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA MARCH 4, 1983 Notice having been given in accordance with Government Code 54956.5, Mayor Yannatta Goldway called the emergency special meeting to order at 8:40 A.M. Roll Call: Present: Mayor Ruth Yannatta Goldway Mayor Pro Tempore Ken Edwards Councilmember James P. Conn Councilmember Christine E. Reed Councilmember Dennis Zane City Manager John Alschuler, Jr. City Attorney Robert M. Myers City Clerk Joann Jelly Absent: Councilmember William H. Jennings Councilmember Dolores M. Press The City Manager presented the staff report referring to staff memorandum and reported on the present condition of the pier further damaged by the recent storms. In addition the contractor handling the previous damage had lost almost all applicable tools and equipment in the storm, consequently the staff has contacted John L. Meek Company, Wilmington, who can move in equipment on Friday, March 4, 1983 and immediately begin work on Saturday, March 5, 1983. The City Manager advised that the funds may well be recoverable up to 75% from disaster monies of the State and federal government. Mayor Pro Tem~ore Edwards moved and Councilmember Conn seconded to adopt Resolution No. 6637(CCS) entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA WAIVING COMPETITIVE BIDDING FOR CONSTRUCTION AND REPAIR WORK ON SANTA MONICA PIER," reading by title only and waiving further reading thereof, awarding Contract No. 3879(CCS) to John L. Meek Company. The motion was approved by the following roll call vote: Affirmative: Councilmembers: Conn, Edwards, Reed, Zane and Mayor Yannatta Goldway Absent: Councilmembers: Jennings and Press Council questioned the likelihood of risk to the new equipment, the weather expected for the coming week-end and commented on the long hours and responsible work performed by staff. 1 March 4, 1983 176 . Mayor Yannatta Go1dway announced that ~he City will be joining with other coastal cities in an effort to share information about repair and aid. Councilmember Cp'nn moved, Mayor Yannatta Goldway seconded and motion carried 'unanimously to adJourn the meeting at 9:53 A.M.
