PARKING AUTHORITY MINUTES
COUNCIL CHAMBER, CITY HALL, SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA
Special Meeting
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 1980
The Parking Authority of the City of Santa Monica met in Special Session
at the above-named time and place.
MEMBERS PRESENT: John Jo Bambrick, William Jennings, Christine E. Reed,
Perry Scott, Cheryl Rhoden, Ruth Yannatta Goldway
MEMBERS ABSENT: Pieter van den Steenhoven
ALSO PRESENT: Charles K. McClain, City Manager
Richard L. Knickerbocker, City Attorney
Joyce Snider, City Clerk
Stanley E. Scholl, Director of General Services
Mr. Scholl presented the staff report for the Parking Study for the Main
Street/2nd and 3rd Street Areas Between Ocean Park Blvd. and the South
City Limits. During discussion of the report, Ms. Vannatta Ga1dway stated
that lighting for the Ashland Avenue/Neilson Way walkway should be included
with Alternative No.6, the item not to be financed with CDBG funds.
Mrs. Reed moved to instruct staff to prepare an ordinance establishlng
a preferential parking district on 2nd and 3rd Streets and adjacent side
streets for the February 26, 1980 meeting and also that the Main Street
parking meter rate increase be conceptually approved. Staff is to be
directed to prepare a resolution for implementation and instructed to
consider in greater detail Alternatives 3, 4, 5, and 6. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Scott.
Paul Silver of the Ocean Park Community Organizaticn addressed the Parking
Authority and requested that the area of investigation be extended west
to include Barnard Way instead of stopping at Neilson Way. No action
was taken on the requesto
The motion was passed with the following vote:
AYES: MEMBERS: Jennings, Reed, Scott, Rhoden, Vannatta Go1dway,
Bambrick
NOES: MEMBERS: None
ABSENT: MEMBERS: van den Steenhoven
There being no further business before the Parking Authority, on motlon
by Mrs. Reed, seconded by Mr. Jennings and carrled unanimously, the Parking
Authority Meeting was adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
