A special meeting of the Santa Monica City Council was called to
order by Mayor Conn at 4:31 p.m., on Friday, October 14, 1988, in
the Council Chambers.
Absent: Councilmember Alan S. Katz
Councilmember Christine E. Reed
Also Present: city Manager John Jalili
Assistant city Attorney Joseph Lawrence
Personnel Director Karen Bancroft
Deputy city Clerk Charles Schitoskey
CLOSED SESSION: Presented was a request for Closed Session for
the purpose of discussing personnel matters. At 4:32 p.m.,
Council adjourned to Closed Session. At 4:40 p.m., council
reconvened with all members present. Mayor Conn announced that
Clarice Johnsen was appointed City Clerk for the City of Santa
Monica. Mayor Conn moved that Clarice Johnsen be appointed as
City Clerk; that she is to receive the same benefits provided
under the Executive Pay Plan with the exception of the merit
bonus; her salary will be set within the current salary range
established for the position of the City Clerk. Second by Mayor
Pro Tempore H. Katz. The motion was approved by the following
vote:
Council vote: Unanimously approved 5-0
Absent: Councilmembers A. Katz, Reed
Mayor Conn requested the record reflect that the two
councilmembers who are absent were a part of this decision,
concurred with it, and could not be present today for this public
announcement.
