A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA SETTING A PUBLIC
HEARING ON JUNE 8, 1993 TO DETERMINE
WHETHER PUBLIC NECESSITY, HEALTH, SAFETY,
OR WELFARE REQUIRES THE FORMATION OF AN
EXTENSION TO AN UNDERGROUND UTILITY
DISTRICT ON FOURTEENTH STREET FROM OCEAN
PARK BOULEVARD TO ASHLAND AVENUE AND ON
ASHLAND AVENUE FROM FOURTEENTH STREET TO
SIXTEENTH STREET, AND APPROVING A TIME
EXTENSION FOR THE COMPLETION OF
UNDERGROUNDING DISTRICT 1 AT FOURTEENTH
STREET AND DISTRICT 2 AT OLYMPIC
BOULEVARD
WHEREAS, Ordinance Number 773 (CCS) estab11shes a procedure
for the creation of underground utility distr1cts and requires as
the ini t1.al step 1n such procedure the holding of a publlc
hearing to ascertain whether public necessity I health, safety, or
welfare requires the removal of poles, overhead wires and
associated overhead structures and the underground installation
of wires and facill.t1es for supplying electric, communication, or
siml.lar or associated service in any such district; and
WHEREAS, l.t has been recommended that such an extenSl.on to
an underground utility district, hereinafter called District be
formed on Fourteenth Street from Ocean Park Boulevard to Ashland
Avenue, and on Ashland Avenue from Fourteenth street to S1xteenth
Street,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. Notice is hereby given that a publ1c hearing
wlll be held by the Clty Counc1l of the C1ty of Santa Mon1ca on
June 8, 1993 at the hour of 6:30 p.m. in the City Councl.l
Chambers of the C1ty Hall, 1685 Main street, Santa Monica,
California, to ascertain whether the public necessl.ty, health,
safety or welfare requires the removal of poles, overhead Wlres
and
associated
overhead
structures
and
the
underground
1nstallation of wires and facilities for supplY1ng electric,
commun1catl.On, or similar or associated service in the D1strict
hereinabove described.
SECTION 2. At such hearing all persons interested shall be
g1ven an opportunity to be heard. Said hear1ng may be continued
from time to tlme as may be determined by the Cl.ty Council.
SECTION 3. The ci ty Clerk shall notify all
affected
property owners as shown on the last equalized assessment roll
and utilities concerned of the time and place of such hear1ng by
ma111ng a copy of th1s Resolution to such property owners and
utilities concerned at least ten (10) days prior to the date of
the public hearing.
SECTION 4. The area proposed to be included in the Distrl.ct
is shown upon that certain map entitled "Sketch Showing Proposed
Expansion of Underground District at Fourteenth streetll, Drawing
Number 4510A, which is on file in the office of the Clty Engineer
of the City of Santa Monica.

SECTION 5. The time extensions for the completion of
Undergrounding District 1) Fourteenth street between Pearl street
and Ocean Park Boulevard and the Extension described above, and
undergrounding District 2)
Olympic Boulevard between Fifth
street and Eleventh street including the Lincoln Boulevard on and
off ramps to the Santa Monica Freeway, are hereby approved as of
July 1995 for District 1 and as of October 1998 for District 2.
SECTION 6. The city Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
