RESOLUTION NClIBER 8325 (CCS)

RESOL~TION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA IN OPPOSITION TO BUDGET CUTBACKS AT THE
CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE CONTROL
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS,
the California Department of Alcoholic
Beverage Control is an important and necessary la'", enforcement
agency of the state of California; and
WHEREAS, proposed budget reductions for the Alcoholic
Beverage Control Department will eliminate 75% of its enforcement
budget, reducing the number of investigators for the entire state
of California from the current 197 investigators to only 53; and
WHEREAS, the proposed budget reductions for the
Alcoholic Beverage Control Department will result in the closure
of at least five offices, including the Inglewood office vlhich
currently
serves
Santa
Uonica,
therefore
increasing
the
enforcement responsibility of our already overburdened Santa
Monica Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control
is the only profit-making major law enforcement agency in the
state, and the proposed cutbacks will elimlnate the profit WhlCh
is currently earned;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. That the city Council of the City of Santa
Monica calls upon Governor Wilson to restore the budget of the
California Department of Alcoholic Beverage control: and
SECTION 2. That the city council of the City of Santa
Honica calls upon the Legislature of the state of california to
do all in its power to restore the budget for Alcoholic Beverage
Control in the event that the Governor fails to do so.
SECTION 3.
The city Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
