A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
ADOPTING THE CHILD CARE MASTER PLAN
AND CHILD CARE POLICY STATEMENT
WHEREAS,
the
City
of
Santa
Monica,
the
Santa
Mon~ca-Malibu Unified School District, and Santa Monica College
have realized the urgency of child care as a social issue through
a jointly sponsored study, The Child Care Master Plan, of the
present and future child care needs of our community; and
WHEREAS, these three entities have made a long standing
commitment to nurture the optimum growth and development of
children in our community, and that it is recognized that support
for Early Childhood Education is the most cost effective way to
insure success In school, and later in the employment market; and
HHEREAS, the Haster Plan has found that the existing
resources to support working families are not adequate; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica, Santa Monica-Malibu
Unified School District, and Santa Monica College realize that
working families and local employers depend upon Santa Monica as
a regional provider of child care programs to support the
workforce; and
tYHEREAS, the accessibility, affordability and quality of
early childhood through school age child care programs are a
responsibility that must be shared collectively by parents, the
private sector and governmental bodies; and
WHEREAS, the city of Santa Monica, Santa Monica-Malibu
Unified School District, and Santa l'ionica College by adopting

resolutions in separate action are solidiying their joint
commitment to address the critical and increased need for child
care in the communitYi and
WHEREAS, we are taking the historic step of uniting our
leadership and our resources in support of the Santa Monica Child
Care Master Plan and individual child care policy statements,
NOW THEREFORE I THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The city of Santa Monica adopts and approves
in concept the Santa Monica child Care Master Plan.
SECTION 2.
The city of Santa fo.10nica adopts the city
Child Care Policy.
SECTION 3. The city Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall
be in full force and effect.
