A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA COMMENDING
THE CALIFORNIA SENIOR LEGISLATURE,
THE CALIFORNIA COMMISSION ON AGING,
AND THE CALIFORNIA FUND FOR
SENIOR CITIZENS
WHEREAS, the Santa Monica City Council recognizes the efforts of the
California Senior Legislature and the California CommlSSlon on Aging on behalf
of the 4.1 mlllion older adults in California; and
WHEREAS, the California Fund for Senior Citizens was created in 1983 as
a voluntary donation check off fund on line 89 of the State income tax return;
and
WHEREAS, the Callfornia Fund for Senior Citizens stipulates that the
first $75,000 contributed will be used for costs associated with the annual
session of the California Senior Legislature held in Sacramento durlng the
first week of October, and the next $250,000 contributed shall be used for the
ongoing legislative advocacy and educatlonal activities of the Californla
Senior Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the California Fund for Senior Citizens provides that any funds
above the $325,000 allocated to the California Senior Legislature shall be
allocated to the California Commission on Aging for direct senior citizen pro-
grams through contracts with public or non-profit organizations with the Cal-
iforn;a Department of Aging for limited term pilot programs on an annual ba-

WHEREAS, the California Fund for Senior Citizens provided $108,000 to 13
counties in 1986 for an Emergency Alert System for homebound frail seniors;
and
WHEREAS, the California Senior leglslature identifles senior needs and
concerns at the local level, and then prioritizes the concerns into a package
of legislative bills that can be realistically dealt with by the Californla
Legislature.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The Santa Monica City Council expresses its appreciation to
the California Senior Legislature and the Callfornia Commlssion on Aging for
the serVlces it provides to the senlors of California.
SECTION 2. The Santa Monica City Council supports the opportunity to
voluntarily donate to the California Fund for Senior Citizens on line 89 of
the State income tax return, and encourages all Santa Monlca residents to
voluntarily donate to the California fund for Senior Citizens.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolu-
tion, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and
effect.
