RESOLUTION NO. 8385 CCS
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA SUPPORTING
INCREASED JOB TRAINING PARTNERSHIP ACT FUNDING
FOR SANTA MONICA
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has issued a Request for
Proposals to Operate Programs Under the Federal Job Training
Partnership Act (JTPA) for a four-year period beginning July 1,
1992: and
WHEREAS, the Clty of Santa Monica does not receive JTPA
funds dlrectly and therefore must rely on County allocations to
local non-profit organizations to ensure services to Santa Monica
residents; and
WHEREAS, JTPA funds are intended to provide job-related
tralning and employment to economically disadvantaged youth and
adults; and
WHEREAS, a number of documents previously approved by the
City Council of the city of Santa Monica (includlng the Ten-Year
Youth Action Plan and the Task Force on Homelessness A Ca~~ TQ
b~tion) pr1orlt1ze increased funding for employment efforts to
these groups:
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council authorizes City staff to work
in partnership with local service providers, the prlvate sector
and the County of Los Angeles to create expanded job trainlng and
placement services in Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. The City Councll urges the County Board of
Supervl.sors and the County Private Industry Council to expand
JTPA funding and services to Santa Monica through awards to local
non-profit organizatlons applying for such funds.
