O2019 f:\atty\muni\laws~mjm\commissions2.wpd City Council Meeting 8-14-01 Santa Monica, California ORDINANCE NUMBER 2..Qli (CCS) (City Council Series) AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL SECTION 2.48.030 AND ADDING SECTION 2.56.031 TO THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO EMERITUS COMMISSIONERS ON THE CITY'S COMMISSION FOR OLDER AMERICANS AND COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Santa Monica Municipal Code Section 2.48.030 is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 2.48.030 Commissioner(s} Emeritus. The City Council may appoint up to three Commissioners Emeritus who may serve simultaneously on the Commission on Older Americans ("Commission"). The appointments shall be based upon the recommendations of the Commission. To be eligible for appointment, a person must have served two full terms as a Commissioner on the Commission and must be a resident within the City. Each Commissioner Emeritus shall be a nonvoting member of the Commission, may represent the Commission at community and other functions as directed by the 1 Commission, may serve on Commission committees, and shall abide by the bylaws of the Commission. The term for a Commissioner Emeritus shall be two years, and each Commissioner Emeritus may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms. A Commissioner Emeritus shall not be eligible to serve simultaneously as a voting member on another City Commission. SECTiON 2. Section 2.56.031 is hereby added to the Santa ivionica iviunicipai Code to read as follows: Section 2.56.031 Commissioner(s) Emeritus. The City Council may appoint up to three Commissioners Emeritus to serve simultaneously on the Commission on the Status of Women ("Commission"). The appointments shall be based upon the recommendations of the Commission. Any provision of the Santa Monica Municipal Code or appendices thereto inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance, to the extent of such inconsistencies and no further, is hereby repealed or modified to that extent necessary to effect the provisions of this Ordinance. SECTION 4. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, or phrase of this Ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a decision of any court of competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions ofthis Ordinance. The City Council hereby declares that itwould have passed this Ordinance and each and every section, subsection, sentence, clause, or phrase not declared invalid or unconstitutional without regard to whether any portion ofthe ordinance would be subsequently declared invalid or unconstitutional. SECTION 5. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall attest to the passage of this Ordinance. The City Clerk shall cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper within 15 days after its adoption. This Ordinance shall become effective 30 days from its adoption.
