AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
AMENDING OFFICIAL DISTRICTING MAP
WHEREAS, the city Council adopted Ordinance Number 1452(CCS}
and 1454(CCS} in August, 1988, establishing a new Comprehensive
Land Use and Zoning Ordinance and establishing a revised Official
Distrcting Map for the City; and
WHEREAS, on June 2, 1993 the Planning Commission held a duly
noticed public hearing concerning amendment of the Santa Monica
Municipal Code and the Official Districting Map to create a new
overlay zone, the BR Boulevard Residential R-3 Overlay District,
and recommended such amendments to the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the city Council held a duly noticed public hearing
concerning the proposed amendments and finds that the proposed
amendments are consistent in principle with the goals,
objectives, policies, land uses, and programs specified in the
adopted General Plan, in that they are consistent with Land Use
and Circulation Element Objective 1.10 which states that the City
should expand the opportunity for residential land use while
protecting the scale and character of residential neighborhoods;
and
WHEREAS, the City council finds that the public health,
safety, and general welfare require the adoption of the proposed
amendments in that the amendments require good land development
and enhancement of the aesthetic appearance of the R3 Ocean Park
Boulevard area of the City by providing standards for building
articulation, private open space, and landscaping that wil
prevent overdevelopment in the area;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Official Districting Map of the City of
Santa Monica is amended to create the BR Boulevard R-3 Overlay
District encompassing the residentially zoned parcels east of
Lincoln Boulevard and west of 26th Street fronting on Ocean Park
Boulevard, as set forth in Exhibit "A."
SECTION 2. Any provision of the Santa Monica Municipal Code
or appendices thereto, inconsistent with the provisions of this
Ordinance, to the extent of such inconsistencies and no further,
are hereby repealed or modified to that extent necessary to
effect the provisions of this Ordinance.
SECTION 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, or
phrase of this Ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or
unconstitutional by a decision of any court of any competent

jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portions of this Ordinance. The City council hereby
declares that it would have passed this Ordinance, and each and
every section, subsection, sentence, clause, or phrase not
declared invalid or unconstitutional without regard to whether
any portion of the Ordinance would be subsequently declared
invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION 4. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this Ordinance. The City Clerk shall
cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper
within 15 days after its adoption. This Ordinance shall be
effective 30 days from its adoption.
