O1309 !. - e e CA: RMN: nnll 000 City Council Meetlng 6-26-84 Santa Mon1ca, California ORDINANCE NUMBER 1309 (CCS) (City CounC1l Ser1es) AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA ~lENDING SECTION 11000 OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES AT MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 11000 of the Santa Monica Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: Sectlon 11000. Nomination of Candidates. Not earlier than the ll3th day nor later than 5:00 p.m. on the 88th day before a mUlllcipal elect10n, the voters may nom1nate candidates for election by s1gning a nOffilnatlon petition. If nomination papers for an incumbent off1cer are not f1led by 5:00 p.m. on the 88th day before the election, the voters shall have until 5:00 p.m. on the 83rd day before the election to nOffi1nate candidates other than the incumbent for the elective office. Each cand1date shall be proposed 1 .. e e by not less than 100 reglstered voters, but only one candidate may be named in any one nomination petition. Any person reglstered to vote at the election may circulate a nomination petition. Where there are full terms and short terms to be filled, the term shall be specified ln the namlnatlon petltlon. SECTION 2. Any provision of the Santa Monica Municipal Code or appendices thereto inconsistent wlth the provislons of this ordinance, to the extent of such inconslstencies and no further, are hereby repealed or modified to that extent necessary to affect the provlslons of this ordlnance. SECTIOR 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, or phrase of thlS ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a decision of any court of any competent Jurlsdlctlon, such decision shall not affect the validlty of the remaining portions of the ordinance. The City Councll hereby declares that lt would have passed this ordlnance and each and every section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase not declared invalid or unconstitutional without regard to Whether any portion of the ordinance would be subsequently declared lnvalld or unconstitutional. 2 e e SECTION 4. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall attest to the passage of th~s ordinance. This City Clerk shall cause the same to be publ~shed once in the official newspaper w~th~n 15 days after its adopt1on.
