AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
ESTABLISHING NOMINATION AND ELECTION
PROCEDURES FOR THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS
OF THE RENT CONTROL BOARD AT THE
JUNE 1984 SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
Notw~thstanding the prov~sions of Munlclpal
Code Sect~on 11000 or any other provls~on of law, the followlng
procedures shall govern the elect~on of members to the Rent
Control Board at the June 5, 1984, Special Municipal Elect~on.
(a) Not earlier than March I, 1984, nor later than 5:00
p.m. on March 9,
1984, voters may nominate cand~dates for
election by slgn~ng a nomination paper.
(b) Each candidate shall be proposed by not less than 20
registered voters, but only one candidate may be named in anyone
nomination petltlon.
(c) Because there are poth a long term and a short term to
be fllled, the term shall be spec~fied ln the nomination
petltion.
SECT ION 2.
Any provlslon of the Santa Monlca Municipal
Code or append~ces thereto lnconsistent with the prov~slons of

this ordinance,
to the extent of such inconsistenc~es and no
further, are hereby repealed or modif~ed to that extent necessary
to affect the provls~ons of th~s ordinance.
SECTION 3.
If any sect~on, subsection, sentence, clause.
or phrase of th~s ordinance ~s for any reason held to be lnval~d
or unconstltutional by a decls~on of any court of any competent
)urlsdlctlon,
such declslon shall not affect the valid~ty of the
remaln~ng portlons of the ordinance. The City Council hereby
declares that lt would have passed thls ordlnance and each and
every
sectlon,
subsectlon,
sentence, clause or phrase not
declared lnval~d or unconstitutlonal wlthout regard to whether
any portion of the ordlnance would be subsequently declared
~nvalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION 4.
The Mayor shall sign and the C~ty Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk shall
cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper
with~n 15 days after its adoptlon.
The ord~nance shall become
effect~ve on the date of lts adoptlon in accordance wlth Clty
Charter Section 619(a) in that it relates to an election.
