AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
AMENDING SECTIONS 2234 AND 2501
OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
AND REPEALING SECTIONS 2224 AND 2225
OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH A PURCHASING
DIVISION WITHIN THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
Section 2234 of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
Section 2234.
F1nance De~artment.
Pursuant to Sect10n 702 of the City Charter,
there is hereby created a department in the
City government to be known as the Finance
Department.
Within the Finance Department
shall be the City Controller, the City
Treasurer, and the Purchasing Divislon.
SECTION 2. Section 2501 of the Santa Monlca Municipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
Section 2501.
Organizatlon of
Purchaslng Divlsion. The Purchasing Divlslon
establlshed within the Finance Department

shall be administered by the Purchasing

appointed by the Director of Finance in
accordance with clvil service regulations.
SECTION 3. Sectlons 2224 and 2225 of the Santa Monica
Municipal Code are repealed.
SECTION 4. Any provision of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code or appendices thereto inconsistent with the provls1ons of
this ordinance, to the extent of such lnconsistenc~es and no
further, are hereby repealed or mod~fied to that extent necessary
to affect the prov~sions of this ordinance.
SECTION 5. If any sectlon, subsection, sentence, clause,
or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalld
or unconstitutional by a decision of any court of any competent
Jurlsdlction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the
remalning portlons of the ordinance. The City Council hereby
declares that it would have passed this ordinance and each and
every section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase not
declared invalid or unconstltutional wlthout regard to whether
any portion of the ordinance would be subsequently declared
invalld or unconstitutional.

SECTION 6.
The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of thJ.s ordinance.
The City Clerk shall
cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper
within 15 days after l.ts adoption.
The ordinance shall become
effective after 30 days from l.ts adoption.
