A~ OFDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING
CHAPTER 1 OF ARTICLE IX OF THE
SANTA MONICA r~JNICIPAL CODE RELATING
TO THE PROHIBITION OF MEDICAL AND
DENTAL OFFICES A~~ AMUSEME~T ARCADES
IN THE Ml AND M2 INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS
h~EREAS, present zoning laws permit all office uses and
amusement arcades in the Jln and M2 Industrial Districts; and
WHEREAS, locating medical and dental offlces and amuse-
ment arcades 1U the Ml and M2 Dlstricts may displace industrial
and other more suitable uses from these dlstricts; and
WH~REAS, it is unnecessary to locate medical and dental
offlces or amusement arcades in the HI and M2 Distr1cts since
suff1cient commercial zon10g eXlsts 10 the Commercial Districts
to support anticipated needs; and
WHEREAS, the proposed amendments-would prohibit the location'
of new medlcal, dental and amusement arcade uses 1n the Ml and M2
Dlstricts; and
WHEREAS, the proposed amendments are Ln the-public interest
convenience, necessity, general welfare, in accordance with good
zon1ng practice and should be adopted; and
WHEREAS, a publ1C hearlng was held on August 4, 1980 and the
Planning Commisslon considered and recommended the amendments to
the City Council: and
WHEREAS, the City Council, after a public hearing concurs
with the recommendations of the Planning commission:

The proposed ordinance would prohibit the locations of new
medical, dental and amusement arcade uses in the Ml and M2 Districts.
Medical and dental uses would be allowed in these industr1al areas
only by use permit.
ALTERNATIVES
The Council may accept, reject or aMend the proposed ordin~nce.
RECOMHE~DATION
It 1S respectfully recommended the Clty Council introUuce
this ordinance proh1biting medical, dental, and amusement arcade
uses In the Ml and r12 Industrial Districts.
