AN ORDINANCE A11ENDING SECTION ll2l4
OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE,
ESTABLISHING A PROCEDURE FOR DETER-
MINING BALLOT ORDER OF CANDIDATES AND
BA.LLOT MEASURES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CI~Y OF ~ANTA MONICA
ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS;
SECTION l. Section 11214 of the Santa Monica
Munlcipal Code is amended to read as follows:
SECTION 1~214. BALLOT ORDER.
In~any electlon for Clty Council, School Board
of the Santa Monlca Unifled School Distrlct or Board of
Trustees of the Community College, the order in WhlCh the
name shall appear on the ballot, shall be determined by a
casting of lots. The ballot order of all candidates, propo-
sitions and ballot measures shall be the same as the order
WhlCh is drawn from sald lots.
SECTION 2. .The Mayor shall sign and the C1ty
,- Clerk shall attest to the passage of this ordinance. The
City Clerk shall cause the same to be published once in the
offlclal newspaper within fifteen (IS) days after its adoptlon.

This ordinance shall become effective immedlately upon adoptlon,
p~rsuant to Section 619 (a) of the Santa Monica City Charter,
as it relates to an election.
