O1106 OHDINANCE NO. lJ06(CC:S (City Council Series) AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA BONICA AMENDING SECTION 11209 OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO LIMITATIONS ON CAMPAIGN COl\JTRIBUTIONS. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAinA MONIC1\. DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 11209 of the Santa Monica Municipal Code, relating to limitations on campaign contri- butions, is hereby amended to read as follows: (a) No person other than a candidate when contributing to his own campaign shall make, and no campaign treasurer shall solicit or accept any contribution which will cause the total amount contributed by such person with respect to each election item, to exceed two (2) cents multiplied by the voting age population. - (b) Except as provided in Section 11210, no contribution shall be permitted except when the legal name of the person or organization who offers the contribution is disclosed. Contri- butions under assu~ed names or contributions offered by individuals who are acting as con- duits or agents for other individuals or interests are prohibited. (c) A business entity, including, but not limited to corporation, firm, partnership, sole proprietorship, association, or labor union, may contribute to campaigns to the same extent as a natural person. The holder of a Santa Monica business license may con- tribute to the same extent as a natural per- son for each license held. SECTION 2. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a decision of any court of competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of the ordin- ance. The City Council hereby delcares that it would have passed this ordinance and each section, subsection, clause or phrase hereof, irrespec~ive of the fact that anyone or more section, subsections, clauses or phrases be declared invalid or unconstitutional. SECTION 3. The Mayor shall slgn and the City Clerk shall attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk shall cause same to be published once in the official newspaper within fifteen (15) days after its adoption.
