AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COVNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING
SECTIONS 7l12A, 7112a, 7112C AND
SECTION 7402 OF TaE SAN~ MONICA
MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING DRIVEWAYS
FROM PUBLIC STREETS ONTO PRIVATE
PROPERTY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN~A MONICA
DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
Section 7l12A of the Santa Mon~ca
Municipal Code is .pereby amended and shall re~d as follows:

wings, equal in width to the length of
the vertical taper In the curb, may be
constructed extendlng from the curb to
the sidewalk. Said wings also may extend
from the back edge of the sidewalk to the
street property 11ne. The total width
of Concrete wings and driveway at the
point where the drlVeway crosses the
property line shall be the same as the
width of concrete w~ngs and driveway at
the curb. The rninlmum width of the
driveway shall be 12 fe~t. The maximum
width shall be 35 feet. The length of

with the curb height at the driveway
location and shall conform to the
dimensions shown in the table below.
The Parking and Trafflc Engineer
shall not approve a dr~veway exceeding
35 feet In width on any lot zoned for
commerclal or industrial use under the
prOVlsions of said Chapter 1 of Article
IX of this Code unless in his opinion a
wider driveway is required by the nature
of the bus1ness operated on the abuttlng
prope~ty, and unless 1n his op1nion no

minimum-width -of a drlVeway shall be
20 feet for a two way operation and
12 feet for a one-way Operation.
The Parking and Traffic Englneer
Shall not approve a driveway or driveways
to serve any lot zoned for single ramily
resident~al use under the provisions of
Chapter l, Article IX of this Code. which
would exceed in total width 28% of the
frontage of sa~d lot on the street from
which access is to be obtained, except
that on any lot a.single driveway not
ta exceed 14 feet in width shall be
permitted regardless of the amount'of
street frontage of Sd1d lot. The driveway
width as specified above shall be measured
between the bottoms of the ~rti~l taper
in the curbs and shall be the-same at the
point where the driveway crOSses the sidewalk.
~he minimum width of the driveway shall be
10.0 feet. The length of the vertlcal taper In
the curb shall vary with the curb he1ght at
the driveway location and shall conform to

less than the required ffilnimum and width;

Cd) Where the variance requested
arlses from unusual or extraordlnary
Physical condltlons WhlCh do not apply
generally to other lots, the granting of
the varlance requested wll1 not be contrary
to the publlC safety, convenlence and
general welfare, the granting of the varlance
requested will not adversely affect the
rlghts of adjacent property owners or
tenants, and the granting of the variance
~equested is necessary to do substantlal
justice and to avoid unnecessary hardShip
or results inconsistent with the general
purposes of said Sections.
SECTION 4.
Section 7402 of the Santa Monica
Municipal Code is hereby amended and shall read as follows:

City Clerk shall cause the same to he publ~shed once in
the official newspaper withln fifteen (15) days after its
adoption. The ordinance shall become effective after
thlr ty (30) days from its adoption.;.l.
