Article VI, Chapter 4, Section 6430
of the Santa Monica 'Muni'Cipa1 Code ~s hereby amended to read
as follows:
Section 6430. MAXIMUM CHARGE. No person shall
charge, collect, demand, receive, or arrange for any compensa-
tion for taxicab service or the service of any automobile for
hire in the City used for the conveyance of passengers, any
amount, rate, or' .comp,~sation greate,r than the charges or

rates regulat~d oy the City Council and established as herein-
after set forth.
The maximum rates or fares to be charged the
public by meter~d taxicabs operating over any street shall be

Council shall have power upon a hearing or upon its own motion
or upon compl~ints, to investigate a single rate or fare or the
entire schedule of.rates in effect, charged, demanded, or
collected for a.utomoQiles for hire or taxicab service and to

sections, sentences, clauses or phrases be declared invalid or

SECTION 3.
The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk
shall attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk
shall cause the same to be published once in the ~fficia1
newspaper within fifteen (l5) days after its a~option. The
ordinance shall become effective after thirty {30J days from its
adoption.
