AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
AMENDING SECTION 3350 OF AND
ADDING SECTION 3350A TO THE SANTA
MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE PERTAINING
TO BICYCLE RIDING.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 3350 of the Santa Monica Munlclpal
Code lS hereby amended to read as follows:
Sectlon 3350. B~cycle rldlng or coastlng restrlcted.
It shall be unlawful to rlde a bicycle or to coast ln any
vehlcle upon any publ~c sidewalk, except as prov~ded for
Sectlon 3350A. The rlder of a bicycle upon a roadway shall rlde
as nearly as practlcable wlthin flve (5) feet of the right hand
curb or edge of the roadway except when passlng a vehicle or
maklng a left hand turn at an lntersectlon.
SECTION 2. Sectlon 3350A lS hereby added to the
Municlpal Code and shall read as follows:
Sectlon 3350A. Blkepath and Beach Promenade. It
shall be unlawful to rlde a blcycle or to coast ln any vehlcle
upon the Beach Promenade; blcycle rlding shall be permitted
along the beach bikepath, wlthln the Clty Ilmlts and ln those
areas where the Promenade constltutes a portion of the blkeway
and are otherwise permitted by slgn. All persons rlding
bicycles on the bikepath shall comply wlth all lawful s~gns
and dlrectlonal marklngs, lncludlng, but not llmited to,
palnted directional arrows, blkepath route boundaries, and
slgns designatlng permlsslble travel lanes.
