AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
AMENDING SECTIONS 2200, 2201,
2202 AND 2204, AND REPEALING
SECTION 2203 OF THE SANTA MONICA
MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES.
SECTION 1. Section 2200 of the Santa Monica Mun~clpal
Code 15 hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 2200. Creatlon of Department
of General Services. Pursuant to the
provisions of S702 of the City Charter,
there hereby is created a department in
the City government to be known as the
Department of General Servlces. All
references in thlS code to the Department
of PubllC Works shall also constltute
references to and shall be construed to
refer to the Department of General
Services.
SECTION 2. Section 2201 of the Santa MOnlca Munlclpal
Code 1S hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 2201. Functlons of Department.
The Department of General SerV1ces shall
be composed of the following dlvisions:
(a) Engineering Divlslon.
(b) Maintenance Divislon.
(c) Utllitles Divlslon.
Said department shall coordlnate and

supervise the exerc~se of all the
funct~ons wh~ch heretofore may have
been or hereafter may be asslgned
to sa~d divisions.
SECTION 3. Sect~on 2202 of the Santa Monica Mun~cipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 2202. Department Head.
The D~rector of General Services
who shall be the head of the
Department of General Services
shall be appo~nted by the City
Manager ~n accordance with ~702
of the C~ty Charter.
SECTION 4. Section 2203 of the Santa Mon~ca Municipal
Code is hereby repealed ~n ~ts entirety.
SECTION 5. Sect~on 2204 of the Santa Monica Mun~c~pal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 2204. Existing Div~s~ons.
All personnel and property heretofore
assigned to any of the divis~ons,
units or subun1ts heretofore placed
in the Department of Public Works
hereby are transferred and assigned
to the Department of General SerV1ces,
and the appropriate divis~ons thereof.
SECTION 6. Any prov~s~ons of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code, or appendices thereto lnconslstent herewlth, to the extent
or such inconsistencles and no further, are hereby repealed or
modifled to that extent necessary to effect the provlslons of
thlS ordinance.

SECTION 7. If any section, subsection, sentence,
clause or phrase of th~s ordlnance is for any reason held to
be ~nvalid or unconstitutlonal by a decision of any court of
competent jurisdict~on, such dec~sion shall not affect the
validlty of the remalnlng portions of the ordlnance. The
Clty Council hereby declares that lt would have passed thlS
ordinance and each and every section, subsectlon, sentence,
clause Or phrase not declared lnvalld or unconstltutional
without regard to whether any portion of the ordinance would
be subsequently declared invalld or unconstitutional.
SECTION 8. The Mayor shall s~gn and the City Clerk
shall attest to the passage of this ordinance. The Clty Clerk
shall cause the same to be published once 1n the offlcial news-
paper wlthln flfteen (15) days after lts adoptlon. The ordinance
shall become effective after thlrty (30) days from lts adoptlon.
