AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING SECTION
3347A OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE,
DESIGNATING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LI}UT
ON CERTAIN STREETS PURSUANT TO SPEED
ZONE SURVEY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
Sect~on 3347A of the Santa Mon~ca
Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 3347A.
Increasing State Speed Limits
In Certa~n Zones.
It is hereby determined upon the basis of
an engineering and traff~c survey 'that the speed permitted by
State law upon the following streets, or portlons thereof, ~s
less than lS necessary for safe operation of vehicles thereon
by reason of the prevaillng speeds as determ~ned by traff~c
engineering measurements thereupon, accldent records, and hlghway
traffic and roadside condit~ons, and it is hereby declared that
the prlffia facle speed limit, as indicated by and pursuant to
sa~d engineering and traffic survey pursuant to Section 627 of
the Cal~fornia Vehicle Code, shall be as hereinafter set forth
on those streets or port~ons of streets herein des~gnated at the
tlmes specified when signs are erected g~v~ng not~ce thereof:
(1) 45 ffilles per hour:
a. 01ymp1c Boulevard from 26th Street
to Centlnela Avenue (north leg) .
(2) 40 miles per hour:
a. San vicente Boulevard from 7th
Street to 26th Street.

a. San Vicente Boulevard from Ocean
Avenue to 7th Street.
b. Broadway from 26th Street to
Centine1a Avenue.
c. Colorado Avenue from 20th Street
to Cent~ne1a Avenue.

to 26th Street, and from Centinela Avenue (north leg) to Centinela
Avenue (south leg).
e. Pica Boulevard from Ocean Avenue
to Cent~ne1a Avenue.
f. Ocean Park Boulevard from 14th
Street to Centinela Avenue.
(4) 30 mlles per hour:
a. Montana Avenue from Ocean Avenue to
Stanford Street.

c. Ar~zona Avenue from Lincoln
Boulevard to 26th Street.
d. Broadway from Lincoln Boulevard to
26th Street.
e. Colorado Avenue from Llnco1n
Boulevard to 20th Street.
f. Nebraska Avenue from Stewart Street
to Cent~nela Avenue.
g. Ocean Park Boulevard from Barnard
Way to 14th Street.
h. Marine Street from Llncoln Boulevard
to 17th Street.

SECT ION 2.
Any prov~sion of the Santa Monlca
Mun~c~pal Code or append~ces thereto inconsistent herewith, to
the extent of such inconsistenc~es and no further, are hereby
repealed or modlf~ed to that extent necessary to effect the
provislons of this ordlnance.
SECTIOi.J 3.
If any section, subsection, sentence,
clause or phrase of thlS ordinance is for any reason held to be
invalld or unconstitutional by a decision of any court of competent
Jurisd~ctlon, such declsion shall not affect the val~dity of the
rema~nlng portions of the ordinance. The City Counell hereby
declares that ~t would have passed th~s ordinance and each and
every sectlon, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase not declared
~nvalld or unconstitutional without regard to whether any portlon
of the ord~nance would be subsequently declared lnvalld or
unconst~tutional.
SECTION 4.
The Mayor shall sign and t~e Clty Clerk
shall attest to the passage of th~s ordinance. The City Clerk
shall cause the same to be published once in the officlal newspaper
w~thin fifteen (15) days after lts adoption. The ordinance shall
become effect~ve after thirty (30) days from its adopt~on.
ADOPTED and APPROVED this 26th day of ~ugust
