A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO APPLY FOR BUILDING EQUITY AND GROWTH
IN NEIGHBORHOODS (BEGIN) PROGRAM FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA, AND ENTER INTO A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE
OF CALIFORNIA IF FUNDING IS AWARDED, AND EXECUTE ANY OTHER
DOCUMENTS NECESSARY TO OBTAIN THIS FUNDING
WHEREAS, Affordable housing, including affordable ownership housing,
is urgently needed in the City of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica in its Housing Element has
established, among other things, that assisting in the development of affordable
housing for moderate income households is a goal; and
WHEREAS, through its Building Equity and Growth in Neighborhoods
(BEGIN) program, the State of California has allocated considerable funding for
grants for cities and counties to provide mortgage assistance loans to low or
moderate income first-time homebuyers in newly constructed homeownership
units; and
WHEREAS, such grants provide an opportunity for Santa Monica to
promote the development of affordable ownership housing,

NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to
apply for funds in the approximate amount of $1,350,000 from the State of
California Building Equity and Growth in Neighborhoods (BEGIN) program,
negotiate and execute a grant agreement and any other documents if funds are
awarded, and certify grant invoices on behalf of the City of Santa Monica with the
State of California's Department of Housing and Community Development for the
affordable housing ownership development proposed for 1943-59 High Place.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution,
and henceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
