R-9799
RESOLUTION NUMBER 9799 eCCS)
CITY OF SANTA MONICA SERIES
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA ENDORSING
THE NOVEMBER 2002 BALLOT MEASURE KNOWN
AS "MEASURE EE," ESTABLISHING DEPENDABLE
CONTINUING FUNDING FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
AND SAFETY FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN IN SANTA MONICA
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica recognizes the importance of
equitable public education as a guarantor of our children's future success; and
WHEREAS, Santa Monica's excellent schools contribute greatly to our
community's values and desirability; and
WHEREAS, we cannot count on the State of California for sufficient
funding to ensure local educational excellence, especially during times of
recurring state budget crises; and
WHEREAS, Measure EE would provide dependable ongoing revenue to
support student achievement, reduced class size, safe and well-maintained
facilities, and enhanced athletic, music and arts programs; and
WHEREAS, Measure EE would, further, increase equity by assuring
student access to programs regardless of ability to pay, improve student career
and counseling services, and provide early childhood education, family support
and after-school programs; and
WHEREAS, Measure EE will help our schools attract and retain our
extraordinarily qualified classroom teachers, 55% of whom currently hold
Master's Degrees compared to a County average of 36%; and
WHEREAS, passage of Measure EE will require an affirmative vote by
two-thirds of the electorate in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Monica does hereby
endorse Measure EE on the November 2002 ballot, and does authorize
publication of that endorsement in campaign literature and elsewhere as
appropriate to encourage support by the voters of Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this Resolution
and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
