R-9799 RESOLUTION NUMBER 9799 eCCS) CITY OF SANTA MONICA SERIES A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA ENDORSING THE NOVEMBER 2002 BALLOT MEASURE KNOWN AS "MEASURE EE," ESTABLISHING DEPENDABLE CONTINUING FUNDING FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND SAFETY FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN IN SANTA MONICA WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica recognizes the importance of equitable public education as a guarantor of our children's future success; and WHEREAS, Santa Monica's excellent schools contribute greatly to our community's values and desirability; and WHEREAS, we cannot count on the State of California for sufficient funding to ensure local educational excellence, especially during times of recurring state budget crises; and WHEREAS, Measure EE would provide dependable ongoing revenue to support student achievement, reduced class size, safe and well-maintained facilities, and enhanced athletic, music and arts programs; and WHEREAS, Measure EE would, further, increase equity by assuring student access to programs regardless of ability to pay, improve student career and counseling services, and provide early childhood education, family support and after-school programs; and WHEREAS, Measure EE will help our schools attract and retain our extraordinarily qualified classroom teachers, 55% of whom currently hold Master's Degrees compared to a County average of 36%; and WHEREAS, passage of Measure EE will require an affirmative vote by two-thirds of the electorate in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Monica does hereby endorse Measure EE on the November 2002 ballot, and does authorize publication of that endorsement in campaign literature and elsewhere as appropriate to encourage support by the voters of Santa Monica. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this Resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
