A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL-OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA COMMENDING SAM PORTER, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
AND MANAGER OF THE SANTA MONICA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
WHEID:AS, Sam Porter, a distinguished citizen of Santa Monica, has
served well the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce since
January 1955 when he joined the Chamber staff as Assistant
Manager, moving shortly thereafter into the position of
Executive Vice President and Manager, and
WHEID:AS, during his tenure of office, the Santa Monica Chamber
prospered and achieved national recognition, becoming one
of the first in the State of California to be accredited
by the United States Chamber of Commerce and the second
in the State to establish a Business Improvement Assessment
District, and
liHEID:AS, Mr. Porter was the first recipient of the Russell E. Pettit
Award in recognition of his assistance and encouragement
to new people in the field of Chamber Management; he
served as President of the Southern California Chamber
Executives, the California State Chamber of Commerce
Executives and as a Director of the American Chamber of
Commerce Executives Association, and
WHEID;AS, Mr. Porter is retiring from his present position after
nearly a quarter century of dedicated community services;
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the members of the Santa Monica City
Council, I, DONNA O'BRIEN SWINK, Mayor of the City of Santa
Monica, take great pleasure in commending Mr. Sam Porter
for his distinguished service to the City of Santa Monica,
its citizens and most especially, to the business community
of this City and we join with the people of Santa Monica
in wishing him well in his future endeavors.
