R-4875 CA 77-81 RLK:SIS:jak 6-9-77 RESOLUTION NO. 4875 (City Council Series) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA EXPRESSING ITS OPPOSITION FOR ASSEMBLY CONSTITUTIONAL Ar~NDMENT NO. 48 WHICH PROPOSES TO AUTHORIZE THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO ESTABLISH THE DATES FOR MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS IN CHARTER CITIES. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City of Santa Monica hereby opposes proposed Assembly Constitutional Amendment No. 48. SECTION 2. That charter cities in the State of California should be free to operate pursuant to the home rule provisions of their respective city charters, and should be free to establish such dates for municipal elections as are in conformity with said respective city charters and the will of the people of the respective cities. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this resolution to the State Assembly and the Assembly Committee on Elections and Reapportionment. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
