A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
SETTING PARKING RATES FOR PARKING
IN THE MAIN LIBRARY PARKING STRUCTURE
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Santa Monica is opening new parking
facilities at the Main library to provide additional monthly parking spaces as well as short-
term parking for library patrons and other downtown visitors, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Monica uses parking fees in the
downtown area to encourage turnover of short-term parking spaces and provide a
disincentive for employees of the area to commute by auto, and consider using transit,
bicycles or walking instead, and
WHEREAS, the City Council ofthe City of Santa Monica would like to provide funds
to maintain and operate parking facilities at the Main Library, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Monica has previously established,
based on market considerations and the need to provide revenue to offset operating costs
of parking facilities, parking rates for monthly parking in downtown attended parking
facilities and for short-term visitors at on-street meters, and

WHEREAS, if users of the Main Library Parking facilities paid for parking at these
same rates, operating revenues would be expected to substantially offset operating costs
for the parking at the Main Library, and
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Santa Monica is authorized to set rates
for parking facilities by resolution,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AND PROCLAIM AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The following rates shall be established for parking facilities at the Main
Library:
Monthly Parking $75.00 per month
Short-term parking $0.50 per % hour
SECTION 2. This resolution shall not be effective until such time as appropriate
signs notifying the public of the provisions herein have been posted by the Department of
Planning and Community Development.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
