A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA ESTABLISHING THE AMOUNTS OF THE PERMANENT
RELOCATION FEES REQUIRED BY SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION
4.36.040
WHEREAS, Santa Monica Municipal Code Section 4.36.020 requires any
landlord who terminates a tenancy for specific reasons to pay a permanent relocation
fee to the displaced tenant; and
WHEREAS, Santa Monica Municipal Code Section 4.36.040 provides that
permanent relocation fee amounts be established periodically by resolution of the City
Council in accordance with the following formula: 1990 relocation fee adjusted for
inflation by the percentage change in the Rent of Primary Residence component of the
CPI-W Index for the Los Angeles/Riverside/Orange County area, as published by the
United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics ("Rental Index"),
between March 1990 and the date of preparation of the City Council resolution, rounded
to the nearest $50.00; and
WHEREAS, the relocation fee required by Section 4.36.040 has not been
adjusted since November 1999, during which time there has been a substantial
increase in the Rental Index; and

WHEREAS, there has been an approximately 46.4 percent increase in the rental
index between March 1990 and April 2004,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Relocation fees pursuant to Section 4.36.030 of the Santa Monica
Municipal Code are hereby set as follows:
HOUSING UNIT SIZE FEE
Single $4,400
One bedroom $5,500
Two bedrooms $6,200
Three bedrooms $7,700
Four or more bedrooms $8,050
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
