CITY CLERK’S OFFICE - MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Denise Anderson Warren, City Clerk, Records & Elections Services
Department
Date: March 15, 2022
13.A Request of Councilmembers Negrete and Brock that the City Council
allocate $10,000 of discretionary funds to Samohi Grad Nite, a 501(c)3, to
enable over 165 low-income students to attend. This would close the
shortfall between previous City funding allocated as part of the annual
budget and the organization’s expenses for June 2022. For over 30 years,
Grad Nite has provided a safe, secure venue for graduating Santa Monica
High School seniors to celebrate their achievements.

EXTERNAL
Dear Esteemed City Councilmembers,
Thank you for adding Item 13 to your agenda tonight. Your support in this event will keep our kids safe on, statistically,
the most dangerous night of their lives thus far. Inflation and supply chain issues have hit us hard and we appreciate
your attention in supporting this tradition at Samohi. It will be that last time for many years the kids ‐ ok ‐ young adults ‐
will be able to be together to celebrate their accomplishments after a very hard two years. The Grad Nite team makes
sure all kids have the opportunity to attend if they want to. Please help us continue this great tradition.
With much gratitude,
Jennifer Smith
Grad Nite Co‐Chair
