A request has been received from Mr. John Boyu'rn, owner of
the store building on the west corner of Montana Avenue
and 17th Street (1623-31 Montana Avenue) to encroach into
Montana Avenue and into 17th Street in connection with the
remodeling of the building.
The requested encroachment is for the purpose pf installing
marble-tile facing on the building pilasters. Existing
pilasters on Montana Avenue presently encroach from 1" to
3-3/~+"• Facing will required-1/2" additional space, re-
sulting in 5-1/4" maximum encroachment on Montana Avenue.
Seventeenth Street encroachment will be 1-1/2" maximum.
Present width of Montana Avenue sidewalk is 10 feet. The
requested encroachment will not interfere with any public
use.
Transmitted herewith is one copy each of the following:
1. Initial letter request from NIr. Boyum.
2. Application for Building Encroachment Perrnit.
3. Field Report and Recommendation for Proposed
Building Encroachment.
It is recommended that the City Council be requested to
approve the request for encroachment.

Dear Sir: -
Gde own the property located at the above address and plan to remodel
the existing building on the property; a recent survey shows the
existing pilasters encroach into city property along the tiiontana sid®,
and the existing pilasters along 1']th Street side are on the property
lire. (A survey of the property and photographs are enolosed). The
remodeling will consist of new store fronts alon both Frontages:
At the pilasters we are planning to apply marble~tile over the existing
which would require approximately 1-1/2LL (for finish and grouting) the
remainder of the fronts are recessed inside the property line and no
encroachments are necessary.
The existing building walls are non-reinforced brick with header
coarses and removal or cutting of the pilasters would cause undue
hardship and cause structural problems.
Your assistance in obtaining approval for the above mentioned items
would be appreciated.
